Many, many years ago, we lived in Alaska.\u00a0 Alaska is a beautiful, wild place.\u00a0 Our tiny cabin had no running water.\u00a0 We hauled water in large containers and it was all good.\u00a0 We showered at the University.\u00a0 We had an outhouse.<\/p>\n
As the winter progressed and set in, the trip to the outhouse became arduous.\u00a0 We had a 2-year-old.\u00a0 Think about it.\u00a0 So, we eventually purchased a porta-potty and placed it in the only available space indoors – right off the kitchen – surrounded on 2 sides with windows.\u00a0 A session on the throne was accompanied with the fear of visitors traipsing down the driveway and up the porch.<\/p>\n
Years have passed.\u00a0 Jobs have changed, degrees have been earned, another child born, moves made.\u00a0 Retirement.\u00a0 A new home.\u00a0 Another forest.\u00a0 Another public toilet.\u00a0 Yup.<\/p>\n
In the new home, we have NO interior doors.\u00a0 Not by choice.\u00a0 Issues with the first doors.\u00a0 New doors and new paint and they now sit in the garage.\u00a0 From the master bathroom, there is a direct line of sight to the window on the front door.\u00a0 Deja vu?\u00a0 I hold court and expect to see any of a variety of workmen wandering up to the door.\u00a0 Surprise!<\/p>\n
