Yesterday, we spent quite a bit of time selecting an assortment of stones to place in the concrete countertop.\u00a0 We narrowed it down and then started all over; several times.\u00a0 We do not want it to look like a big old\u00a0landslide of rocks hither and yon, but we also do not want it to look uber-organized.\u00a0 Fat chance.<\/p>\n
Having gorgeous stones imbeded in the concrete may be the push we (I) need to keep the area clear of added debris.\u00a0 The rocks ranged in color from a very pale beige (which did not make the cut) to dark charcoal, with reds and greens in the mix.<\/p>\n
Shape was another matter altogether.\u00a0 I was not fond of rocks with straight edges.\u00a0 I wanted them to be more random.\u00a0 At one point, I had a rock-flower created on the dining room table.\u00a0 I thought it was beautiful.\u00a0 However, in the light of day, it got the hook and was dragged off stage.\u00a0 Back and forth.\u00a0\u00a0 The large rectangular piece is the concrete color sample of the countertop.\u00a0 Love the color!<\/p>\n
We have been total misers with the counter how-to books from the library.\u00a0 Yesterday was the first day they really meant something to me.\u00a0 I am such a tactile learner – I needed to see the concrete and touch the rocks.\u00a0 I needed to see the countertop puzzle and then begin to set in the pieces.<\/p>\n
We plan to experiment with concrete projects once the house is done.\u00a0 Planters, sinks, tables, whatever.\u00a0 So many options and it looks like a really fun material with which to play.\u00a0 And we have several leftover rocks to imbed…<\/p>\n
