\"\"<\/a>The whirlwind of summer tossing, cleaning and painting has faded away. Fall settled in. We have talked endlessly about our wants and needs in our new home.\u00a0 Builders and architects and plans were viewed. \u00a0 Ups and downs and questions and concerns.\u00a0 Another trip to the island ensued.\u00a0 That trip, recently completed, has proven to be very fruitful.<\/p>\n

One of our first stops was a home in Seattle built using SIPS.\u00a0 This is the path we seem to be headed down.\u00a0 The home was tight, conservative and wonderful.\u00a0 Stained concrete heated floor, recycled timber floors upstairs, the most amazing toilets we had ever seen, windows, and quietude.\u00a0 Good things to see and touch and ponder.<\/p>\n

The above photo is from the ferry, later that afternoon, headed towards the island.\u00a0 How can that not be inspiring?\u00a0 Beautiful.<\/p>\n

We spent several days traipsing around the property marking off wetlands and the home site and a possible driveway.\u00a0 We met with several people and finally found someone who seems to share our vision.\u00a0 This is tough stuff.<\/p>\n

I am unable to be on the property and “see” my future home.\u00a0 Haven’t a clue.\u00a0 I wish I had the ability to imagine what it could be.\u00a0 We met someone who has that ability.\u00a0 I wanted to be in his head.\u00a0 The wheels were turning.\u00a0 When he proposed a simple change in the driveway, it just seemed so sensible.\u00a0 The more we walked, the better sense it made.<\/p>\n

While we seemed to be headed in the right direction, we were still consumed with doubts and questions and the reality of building a home from scratch.\u00a0 We started to think staying in Colorado might be the way to go.\u00a0 Maybe we should find an already existing home in Whidbey and save ourselves money and angst.\u00a0 Like I said, this is tough stuff.<\/p>\n

We got back to our hotel exhausted, cold and discouraged.\u00a0 Then we received an e-mail from the builder.\u00a0 It was one of the most beautifully written pieces we’d ever read.\u00a0 His vision had even made it into words.<\/p>\n
