\"\"<\/a>We left California in the late 70’s.\u00a0 We drove the Ford through the redwoods, along the Oregon Coast, through Washington coastal lands and up into Canada.\u00a0 We waited for word on the AlCan Highway and found out it had washed out.\u00a0 We decided to take the Cassiar Highway; an untamed, solitary, one lane, gorgeous drive.\u00a0 We awoke to voracious mosquitoes and ran to the truck for cover.\u00a0 We wandered through the Yukon.\u00a0 One spot offered up electricity and running water; a true, true luxury.\u00a0 The Ford pulled the trailer up and down hills, past lakes and valleys, and we landed amidst the permafrost stunted forest of the Alaskan border.\u00a0 I cried.\u00a0 It was ugly and desolate.<\/p>\n

The Ford took us to Fairbanks and a small cabin outside of town.\u00a0 No garage.\u00a0 No running water.\u00a0 In the midst of winter, the truck had to be plugged in for hours before we could venture to town.<\/p>\n

We left the following July and drove down the AlCan.\u00a0 Mud, dust, frayed nerves.\u00a0 The entry into Bellingham, Washington was overwhelming.\u00a0 I cried.\u00a0 It was such a big city.<\/p>\n

The Ford dragged the trailer for several camping trips on Whidbey Island.\u00a0 Whidbey was a welcome respite from the city.\u00a0 The ocean, forests and small towns were wonderful.\u00a0 Who knew we would land there so very many years later?\u00a0 Not me.<\/p>\n

The Ford made trips to California,\u00a0 Colorado and back to Washington.\u00a0 The final trip, our weathered vehicle earned a ride to Colorado.\u00a0 Imagine!\u00a0 The trailer had to be sacrificed.\u00a0 I cried.<\/p>\n

The Ford sat in retirement in the Black Forest these past many years.\u00a0 It was somehow comforting to look out the kitchen window and see her there.\u00a0 But, it is time for the next move and she, too, needed a new adventure.\u00a0 Adios.\u00a0 May new adventures be in your future.\u00a0 I will never forget you.<\/p>\n
