\"?????????????????????????????\"<\/a>So – the\u00a0garden fence\u00a0is looking fabulous.\u00a0 We are in search of an old iron headboard for Mr. Fabulous to turn into a garden gate.<\/p>\n

I really wanted the front “yard” to be a lovely meadow in which Bambi would stroll.\u00a0 The hard truth is that the long grasses are havens for mosquitoes.\u00a0 We have been in a battle to find plants that deter the nasty buggers, natural mosquito repellants and such.\u00a0 I’m all about keeping it “green”.\u00a0 However, I will not be held hostage in my home because the skeeters have claimed their area.<\/p>\n

Today, I took the weed whacker to the long grasses around the deck.\u00a0 (This was after I had collected the afternoons swath of slugs.)\u00a0 I whacked the crap out of the grass around the deck and the mosquitoes were not happy.\u00a0 Then I set forth to the mailbox – through the “meadow” across the property.\u00a0 Holy freaking moly, I became a cloud.\u00a0 Skeeters swarmed me.<\/p>\n

Okay – I get it now.\u00a0 I hate lawns.\u00a0 Hate them.\u00a0 Stupid waste of time and energy.\u00a0 Oh my – in the lush forest here in the Pacific Northwest a lawn (or mowed meadow)\u00a0may be the first line of defense against mosquitoes.\u00a0 Who’d a thunk?\u00a0 Not me.<\/p>\n

Am I discouraged?\u00a0 Not a chance.\u00a0\u00a0Recently we made a quick trip to California.\u00a0 It was spectacular.\u00a0 Lake Tahoe and rafting on the Truckee River.\u00a0\u00a0I looked at that crystal clear blue sky.\u00a0 Had we made the correct decision?\u00a0 Oh yes.\u00a0 We came back to the Island and\u00a0a huge sigh of relief ensued.\u00a0 I will take the skeeter battle and the slug war and love every minute.\u00a0 Forge ahead.\u00a0 I refuse to whine and moan –\u00a0join in life and live it.\u00a0 Please.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
