{"id":1013,"date":"2013-12-12T12:55:51","date_gmt":"2013-12-12T20:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/?p=1013"},"modified":"2013-12-12T12:55:51","modified_gmt":"2013-12-12T20:55:51","slug":"destinations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/?p=1013","title":{"rendered":"Destinations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/DSC03731.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1014\" alt=\"S\" src=\"http:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/DSC03731-300x170.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/DSC03731-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/DSC03731-1024x582.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/smugglerscove.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/DSC03731.jpg 1162w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I wonder where they are going?\u00a0 I realize the obvious answer is south, but loads of birds overwinter on the Island.<\/p>\n<p>I used to know the patterns of the Colorado bird population, but I am rather ignorant of the Island bird behavior.<\/p>\n<p>I can tell you that there is a fat piece of suet outside that no one has touched.\u00a0 It is in a new bird feeder that has a bit of seed at the bottom.\u00a0 No takers.\u00a0 Nary a one.<\/p>\n<p>So, I am left to create reasons for the absence of my winged friends.\u00a0 There\u00a0are a wide variety of birds in the surrounding forest.\u00a0 Are they so content that they don&#8217;t need the suet or seed?\u00a0 I think that is totally plausible.\u00a0 They aren&#8217;t junk food birds.\u00a0 They haven&#8217;t been trained to eat hand-outs.<\/p>\n<p>Has the leveling of trees, in preparation for the house upset their status quo?\u00a0 Of course it has.\u00a0 Are they still so jolted by the clearing of land, that they aren&#8217;t brave enough to venture near the deck?\u00a0\u00a0I don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>I do know that many of the birds on the property flit in, under and through the dense\u00a0undergrowth of ferns and small trees.\u00a0 I need to get out there with a pair of binoculars and get to know my bird neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, when the\u00a0re-seeded meadow grows in, the birds will explore.\u00a0 I trust they will.\u00a0\u00a0I want them to.\u00a0 I am sorry I messed with your world, but I am all about re-righting your\u00a0backyard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wonder where they are going?\u00a0 I realize the obvious answer is south, but loads of birds overwinter on the Island.
